Larry Lewis

James BarberLarry W. Lewis was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He was in his first year of college at the University of Texas in 1969 when he had a religious experience that led him (and eventually eleven friends) to join the Church. Larry served a Spanish-speaking mission in Southern California from 1971 to 1973. He has enjoyed many callings in the Church, including early-morning seminary teacher, high councilor, and bishop.

Larry earned a master’s degree in psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1977, and he has worked for LDS Family Services since 1979. He has served as an area coordinator for the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP) in both Texas and North Carolina, and he has served as an area supervisor for AMCAP in Europe and the eastern United States. Larry is a licensed professional counselor and the clinical supervisor for the Farmington Agency of LDS Family Services.

Larry married Kendell Stout in the Manti Utah Temple in 1974, and they raised their four children while living in Spring, Texas; and Charlotte, North Carolina. They made temple attendance a priority from the beginning of their marriage, attending the temple once a year even during the early years of their marriage, when doing so necessitated a thirty-hour, nonstop car trip each way. Larry and Kendell reside in Layton, Utah, where they enjoy the privilege of living within a half-hour drive of three temples.
