Sierra St. James (aka Janette Rallison) has been a fan of science fiction since she watched Star Trek as a child. (Captain Kirk was her first crush.) And she stood in line for hours to watch Return of the Jedi on the first day it came out (Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are also babes).
She currently lives in Chandler, Arizona with her husband Guy who is--no joke--a rocket scientist. (And also a babe.) They have five children. Her sons are named Luke and James (because naming them Starbuck, Apollo, or Han would have been silly).
Authors Note: The best book ideas seem not to come from earthshaking events. They can sometimes come from little things like the peculiarity of language. When we moved to Mesa, Arizona I saw signs like "Alma School Road". I immediately understood where the name had come from, yet my neighbors were oblivious. About that time, I was listening to the MC Hammers song, "Can't touch this." I understood every word he sang and still had no idea what he was talking about. I finally had to ask my younger and considerably cooler nephew to translate the song for me. I realized how much we speak in idioms that are nearly impossible for outsiders to decipher.
