PRESS RELEASE: Orrin Hatch Meets the Mafia
DATE: April 25, 2006

SALT LAKE CITYMario Facione, a Mafioso turned Mormon, recently recounted his conversion to the LDS Church at the request of Senator Orrin Hatch, at the Conference for senior citizens in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Facione, whose story appears in the autobiographical Mafia to Mormon, specialized is the theft and liquidation of heavy construction equipment. As a guest speaker, he packed the room he was assigned to, many guests being turned away for lack of seating. Hundreds of senior citizens crowed into the elegant Wyoming room at the Little America Hotel.
Facione kept everyone entertained with stories of, “ripping off Uncle Sam,” and trying to bribe Mormon missionaries to let him buy his way into the LDS Temple. “What makes his story so interesting, is that he is the real macoy, you can tell as soon as you see him,” said conference attendee Norman Bench from Sandy, Utah. “His story makes you want to be a better person, and appreciate all the good things you have in life.”
Within thirty minutes after Facione’s speech was concluded, visiting bookseller, Deseret Book had sold out of every copy of Mafia to Mormon they had brought to sell. For more information call Lindsey Shumway at 801-489-4084.
