Edinboro Area Historical Society receives travel book donation from former residents.
Two former residents of Edinboro donated a copy of their latest book, Traveling with Grandkids to the Edinboro Area Historical Society. Dean and Nancy McVeigh-Hoch both attended Edinboro High School and Edinboro State university. Dean's sister, Louise Snyder, a current Edinboro resident, made the presentation.
Now working as travel writer, the Hochs currently live in Idaho. In recent years, they have taken their 21 grandchildren with them on trips ( one at a time, they emphasize). This experience they enjoyed so much led them to write their sixth book about the 18 millon grandparents who took a trip with a gradchild, and the authors, of course, are part of that growing number.
The book they have written contains much of hte couple's personal travel experiences, as well as much valuabel help to make traveling wiht grandchildren fun, pleasant, and memorable. Also, included in the book is a chapter dedicated to the unique concept of leaving a travel trust instead of a typical will.
The entire last half is called, "A Suitcase Full of Resources." This section includes the authors' "Recommended Destinations," where they have personally traveled (both domestic and foreign) along with a wealth of web sites and resource material.
The book carried the following endorsement form Michael Spring, New Jersey publisher of the highly-respected Frommer's Travel Guides: "A passionately written book full of useful, sensible advice for everyone tho want to travel with grandchildren and have the time of their life." One of the Hochs' twin granddaughters, age seven (after returning from a trip with her grandparents) gave the idea of intergenerational travel perhaps the best endorsement of all: "Grandma and Grandpa, I liked my trip to Canada with you even more than going with my family to Disneyland!"
Additional information and a photo of the authors are on their web site: www.deanandnancyon theradagain.com.
Those wishing to buy a copy of Traveling with Grandkids may do so at the Edinboro Area Historical Society's headquarters at the Doucette House, 126 Water Street, Edinboro. Open hours are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A portion of the proceeds goes to help support the Edinboro Area Historical Society.
